Omaha Eats: Blue Planet Natural Grill

in Other, Restaurant Reviews

Since moving to the Omaha, NE area about two weeks ago, I have been excited to try out the abundance of restaurants that can be found when living in a bigger city.  After doing my research, this past Saturday night I ventured out into the cold to visit a local restaurant called Blue Planet Natural Grill.  I had looked at their menu online and was delighted to see both vegetarian and vegan options.  Blue Planet Natural Grill has also been ranked as one of the best vegetarian restaurants in the Omaha area, so I knew it had to be good!

Blue Planet Natural Grill is a natural restaurant that is focused on healthy fast food.  Blue Planet uses only organic, natural ingredients that contain very few preservatives and no hormones or antibiotics.  Blue Planet does not deep fat fry (their fries are baked!) and cooks their dishes in the healthiest way possible.  What I was most excited about, however, is the fact that Blue Planet offers a vegetarian or vegan option for nearly everything on their menu.  As a vegetarian who eats vegan often, I was truly impressed by this!  You can also tell that they are nutritionally focused, as their website includes the nutritional information for every menu item.  Some featured items that can be found at Blue Planet Natural Grill includes salads, soups, sandwiches, wraps, burgers, pizza, bowls, and smoothies.  They even offer a selection of wine and beer.

After debating back and forth between several options (which is so rare for a vegetarian/vegan), I decided on the Cheeseburger.  I substituted a spicy black bean burger (vegan) for the beef and added vegan cheddar cheese.  The toppings on my bean burger included fresh lettuce, tomatoes, and onions.  It was all served on a whole wheat bun.  On the side I ordered curry french fries.  You simply cannot beat getting an entirely vegan meal at a “fast-food” restaurant…so rare!

When my plate was first brought to me, I thought that the vegan cheddar cheese looked rather interesting.  I immediately took a quick taste of the “cheese” and was beyond impressed.  It was delicious!  I spread it a bit onto the bean burger to make it more of a “cheese” spread, spread yellow mustard onto my bun, and assembled my sandwich.

Let’s just say…it was love at first bite! 😉

And the curry fries?….amazing!  They were perfectly seasoned, not greasy (thanks to not being fried), and I could not even tell that they were baked.  They were good!  What made the fries even better was dipping them into their signature varieties of ketchup.  I was especially fond of the pineapple mango ketchup and the garlic ketchup.  So, so good!

Blue Planet Natural Grill was my first non-chain eating experience since moving to the Omaha area (it was also my first experiencing of venturing to a restaurant alone…I kind of like it! ;)).  And what a great first experience it was!  Blue Planet Natural Grill is fast, reasonably-priced, vegetarian and vegan friendly, healthy, and delicious!  I will absolutely be eating at Blue Planet again…soon!

Did you tell the same thing to the restaurant? It would be a good idea to let them know that you blog and are spreading the word about their restaurant! You might even get some coupons, who knows!

Pineapple mango and garlic ketchup?! YUM! I love places like Blue Planet Natural Gas Grill; they prove that clean eating is not only healthy, but delicious, too! Your black bean burger looks amazing, as do those baked fries!
